Today we continued working on the "Scale and Humanity's Place in the Universe" Activity (packet distributed in class, printable/viewable version downloadable below as well).
  • First we focused on the "Cosmic Calendar" (Cosmos Ep. #1 "Standing Up in the Milky Way from 27:00-43:00ish)
  • Lastly, we began to analyze two views on Humanity's place in the Universe, Carl Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot" (video below) and Neil de Grasse Tyson's "Most Astounding Fact".
Things to consider for tonight/HW and tomorrow...
  • Due Thurs.: "Biography Notecards" and "Scavenger Hunts" (due tomorrow, last chance...they were assigned a week ago!!!)
  • HW: The above, and 20-30 min. on the "Perspectives on Scale & Humanity's Place in the Universe" Packet (due Monday, but today was last day in-class to really work on it; we will discuss it tomorrow).
